The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have agreed to enhance the capacity of Gender Focal Persons across government departments to improve the collection, analysis and use of gender-related data.
KPCSW, UNFPA join hands to strengthen gender data capacity in KP
PESHAWAR, Sep 07 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have agreed to enhance the capacity of Gender Focal Persons across government departments to improve the collection, analysis and use of gender-related data.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between KPCSW Chairperson Dr Sumera Shams and a UNFPA delegation, where the proposed capacity-building programme was discussed in detail, said an official release issued here Monday.
The initiative will focus on gender indicators and gender tagging of data, enabling government officers to better understand the importance of gender-disaggregated information and strengthen its systematic collection and reporting.
Dr Sumera Shams said the commission would lead the compilation and publication of an annual Gender Parity Report for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, providing an evidence-based assessment of the status of women and gender equality in the province.
She said improved gender data would support evidence-based policymaking and help government departments design more effective policies and programmes for women.
The officials said the initiative would also contribute to Pakistan’s reporting obligations under relevant international conventions and frameworks concerning women’s rights and gender equality.
The UNFPA delegation reaffirmed its support for KPCSW’s efforts to promote gender-responsive governance and data-driven policymaking, while both sides agreed to continue collaboration on the capacity-building programme and preparation of the Gender Parity Report.
