Punjab cracks down on environmental violations, seals 12 sites in province-wide operation
LAHORE, Sep 06 (APP):A multi-sectoral grand enforcement operation against environmental pollution continued across Punjab under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with authorities taking strict action against violators, officials said on Sunday.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, in a statement, warned that there would be no concession for those causing environmental pollution, and violators would face immediate action under the government’s zero-tolerance policy.
As part of the province-wide drive, enforcement teams inspected 192 brick kilns, resulting in the demolition of four units, the sealing of two others, and the imposition of heavy fines. Similarly, 154 industrial units were inspected for regulatory compliance, leading to the sealing of five units and a fine of Rs 500,000.
Intensifying the campaign against plastic pollution, authorities conducted 228 inspections and confiscated 862 kilogrammes of illegal plastic. Overall, 12 sites were sealed across various sectors, and Rs 1.025 million was recovered in fines. In addition, special measures were taken to curb fugitive dust from construction sites, with notices issued to all eight locations inspected.
The senior minister emphasized that environmental monitoring was not restricted to daytime, noting that night surveillance was also underway to curb pollution-causing activities. She reiterated that no compromise would be made on achieving the objective of a clean, green and healthy Punjab.
