NADRA launches AI facial recognition to streamline verification for 3 mln pensioners
PESHAWAR, Sep 05 (APP):The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has formally activated its National Pensioners Verification System (NPVS) to streamline proof-of-life authentication for over three million retirees across federal and provincial departments, armed forces, and autonomous institutions.
In a statement issued here Saturday, The system has been formally launched by Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 20, 2026. The completely free NPVS system has been introduced to eliminate physical hassle of manual bank visits, replacing tedious paper documentation with an automated digital workflow.
The NPVS system has been tailored specifically for elderly and disabled retirees whose faint or worn fingerprints have repeatedly failed standard biometric scans.
Having completed required facial verification, pensioners are automatically issued a digital Proof-of-Life Certificate, which is then transmitted directly to relevant Pension Controller Register System.
Remote accessibility has been extended to overseas Pakistani retirees, enabling them to have their status verified from abroad without having to undergo complex supplementary procedures.
To ensure transparency and safeguard public funds, the NPVS has been directly integrated with NADRA’s Family Registration Certificate (FRC) database.
This linkage has enabled automated, real-time alerts to be dispatched to pension controllers following a pensioner’s death, a change in marital status, an update regarding a minor’s age, or the cancellation of a national identity card.
The initiative has been extended far beyond standard civil service departments to encompass major public sector bodies, including Ministry of Railways, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, WAPDA, PESCO, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, CDA, EOBI, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and various public universities.
Having automated identity verification and real time status tracking, newly implemented system has been designed to protect national exchequer against fraudulent claims whilst ensuring timely, uninterrupted disbursements for legitimate beneficiaries.
