LAHORE, Sep 05 (APP):On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif,a province-wide crackdown against environmental violations was continuing under a zero-tolerance policy, with indiscriminate multi-sectoral action being taken against those violating environmental laws.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in a media statement on Saturday said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab was taking action against environmental violations across various sectors to ensure a clean and pollution-free Punjab in line with the chief minister’s vision.
In the brick-kiln sector,she said,166 kilns were inspected, while one kiln was demolished and three others sealed for violating environmental regulations.
Fines amounting to Rs.300,000 were also imposed on kiln owners found violating the law.
The senior provincial minister said the crackdown against industrial pollution was also continuing, with 114 industrial units inspected and seven sealed for environmental violations.
Fines totalling Rs.400,000 were imposed on the violators.
She said the EPA Punjab had also intensified operations against plastic pollution.
During inspections at 132 locations, authorities seized 1,515 kgs of illegal plastic and sealed 20 premises.
Fines amounting to Rs.180,000 were imposed during the operations.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said effective measures were also being taken to control fugitive dust emissions from construction sites.
During an inspection of a construction site,a notice was issued and a mist sprinkler was installed to prevent dust emissions.
She said strict enforcement of environmental laws was continuing across Punjab in accordance with CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a clean and pollution-free province.
“Those responsible for spreading environmental pollution will not be given any concession.Strict action will be taken against violators in accordance with the law,”she added.
