ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (APP):A meeting to review the implementation and monitoring of the HEC Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), 2021 in the Islamabad Capital Territory was held  here at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday.
The meeting, chaired by Executive Director HEC Dr Zia Ul Haq, was attended by Director General (Research & Analysis Activities) HEC Engr. Saleemullah Sahoo along with relevant HEC officials and representatives of ICT Police.
The Executive Director HEC emphasised the importance of collective and sustained efforts by HEC, law-enforcement agencies, and higher education institutions (HEIs) to prevent drug and tobacco abuse among students and to promote a healthy and conducive learning environment across higher education institutions.
During the meeting, the DG (R&AA) briefed the participants on the key provisions of the HEC Policy and the Commission’s ongoing efforts to ensure its effective implementation, compliance, and monitoring in HEIs located in the ICT/Federal Area.
The meeting also focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination and monitoring mechanisms involving HEC and ICT Police to ensure a safe, healthy, and drug-free educational environment for students.
The participants discussed measures for regular monitoring of HEIs, identification of gaps in policy implementation, and coordinated follow-up actions.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to further strengthen coordination, monitoring, awareness, and preventive measures for effective implementation of the HEC Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in HEIs in the ICT/Federal Area.
