Dr Umair Haroon lauds SSU security training handbook

KARACHI, Sep 03 (APP):Forensic specialist and media professional Dr Umair Haroon has praised the newly published Security Training Handbook, Volume 1 for the Special Security Unit (SSU), describing it as a significant step towards strengthening professional security training.
Dr Umair Haroon, who had previously worked with DIG Maqsood Memon during the development of forensic practices in the Sindh Police, said the handbook provided SSU personnel with a comprehensive field reference covering a wide range of modern security challenges, according to a news release on Thursday.
The 20-chapter handbook covers the organisational structure and role of the SSU.
According to Dr Umair, the handbook combines internationally recognised security practices with operational requirements relevant to Pakistan, helping personnel translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills.
He recalled his professional association with DIG Maqsood Memon during the latter’s tenure in the Forensic Division, when scientific evidence protocols were being strengthened with support from the UK’s DFID programme.
Dr Umair said the initiative reflected the importance of continuous professional training and the adoption of scientific and modern approaches in policing and security operations.
DIG Maqsood Memon, a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and holder of a PhD in Terrorism Financing from Northumbria University, has also served in key security and policing assignments, including the leadership of the SSU.
Dr Umair Haroon, a board-certified medicolegal death investigator and forensic medicine fellow, has also served in media and professional capacities.
