Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) took action against more than 72,000 traffic violators during August, including over 13,000 for lane violations and more than 10,000 for illegal parking, while educating over 130,000 citizens on traffic rules and road safety.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 03 (APP):Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) took action against more than 72,000 traffic violators during August, including over 13,000 for lane violations and more than 10,000 for illegal parking, while educating over 130,000 citizens on traffic rules and road safety.
An ITP official told APP on Thursday that special enforcement measures were taken at different locations across the federal capital during the month to discourage traffic violations and improve road discipline.
According to the August performance report, action was taken against more than 13,000 motorists for lane violations, while over 5,000 were proceeded against for driving on the wrong side of the road.
The ITP also acted against more than 10,000 motorists for illegal parking and over 5,300 motorcyclists for riding without helmets.
During the enforcement drive, more than 7,000 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded at different police stations for traffic violations.
The traffic police also carried out action against vehicles with tinted glasses and rickshaws entering Islamabad in violation of restrictions.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Kainat Azhar Khan said special measures had been taken in the field to ensure implementation of traffic laws.
Alongside enforcement, the ITP continued its road safety education drive, reaching more than 130,000 citizens during August.
Those provided awareness included employees of government and private organisations, students of educational institutions and participants of road education and Uraan Driving School programmes.
The CTO Kainat said awareness and enforcement measures would continue side by side to discourage traffic violations and provide citizens with safer and smoother travel.
Compliance with traffic laws, safe travel and a better traffic system are the top priorities of Islamabad Traffic Police, Kainat Azhar Khan said.
She urged citizens to follow traffic laws and show responsibility while using the roads.
