Rs2.04m paid for illegal route to Iraq: FIA Islamabad books 17 after deportation
ISLAMABAD, Sep 02 (APP):Seventeen travellers allegedly paid a combined Rs2.04 million to an agent for an illegal journey to Iraq through Iran, only to be arrested and fined by Iraqi authorities before being deported to Pakistan and booked by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Islamabad Zone.
An FIA official told APP on Wednesday that the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Islamabad registered FIR No. AHTC-ICT-659/26 against the 17 accused under Sections 3 and 4 of the Passport Act, 1974.
According to a report received from FIA Immigration Islamabad Airport, the passports of the passengers showed a “HIT” in the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) during immigration clearance, after which they were stopped for further verification.
A check of their travel records revealed that the names of all 17 passengers were on the PNIL.
During initial investigation, the accused disclosed that they had allegedly paid Rs120,000 each to agent Kamil Hussain, a resident of Parachinar, to travel illegally to Iraq through Iran. The total amount paid by the 17 travellers came to Rs2.04 million.
The FIA official told APP that after reaching Iraq, the travellers were arrested by Iraqi police and fined. They were later deported to Pakistan.
The role of alleged agent Kamil Hussain and any other facilitators involved in the illegal journey would be determined during further investigation.
The investigation of the case has been assigned to Inspector Muhammad Azeem.
FIA Islamabad Zone reiterated that effective action against those involved in illegal immigration and human smuggling would continue without interruption in accordance with the law.
