ISLAMABAD, Sep 02 (APP):Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has congratulated the nation on Pakistan formally assuming the Rotating Chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State for the 2026–27 term, terming it as a landmark diplomatic achievement and a matter of great pride for the entire nation.
Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan assuming the rotating chairmanship of one of the major regional organisations and its city of Lahore receiving the status of the SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2026-2027 reflects the growing confidence of the international community in Pakistan and marks a significant milestone in the country’s diplomatic journey.
NA Speaker paid glowing tribute to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for his visionary leadership and proactive diplomatic engagements, which have contributed significantly towards strengthening Pakistan’s position and stature at the global level.
He lauded Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the country’s military leadership for their concerted diplomatic and strategic efforts, which have earned Pakistan another significant honour at the international level.
He said that the decision of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee, established under the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence, to appoint the first Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement from Pakistan for a three-year term was a clear manifestation of the confidence reposed in Pakistan’s leadership and its constructive role in promoting collective defence and security cooperation among Muslim countries.
Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan’s SCO Chairmanship Theme, “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity,” aptly reflects the country’s commitment to translating collective aspirations into practical cooperation among SCO member states.
He added that Pakistan would have an important opportunity to play a leading role in promoting regional cooperation, peace, connectivity, innovation and shared prosperity.
Ayaz Sadiq further said that the forthcoming SCO Council of Heads of State Summit, to be hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad in 2027, would provide a historic opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s hospitality, diplomatic capabilities and firm commitment to regional peace, connectivity and sustainable development.
