PBC leads digital pension revolution
ISLAMABAD, Sep 02 (APP):Pakistan Broadcasting Cooperation (PBC) become the first government corporation and first state owned enterprise (SOE) to link with the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) digital application for pensioner verification, enabling its 3,681 existing pensioners to complete biometric verification from home without visiting banks or government offices.
The initiative marks another major step in PBC’s efforts to modernise its pension system and streamline services for retired employees, particularly elderly pensioners and those who face difficulties traveling for routine verification.
Radio Pakistan had earlier become the first government corporation to digitise its pension management system in 2025.
The move helped identify and remove ghost pensioners hidden within the manual system and made pension records readily accessible through a centralised digital database.
The digitisation of the pension system is carried out under the patronage and supervision of Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
Director General, PBC, Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, along with the organisation’s in house Information Technology (IT) team, completed the initiative using the corporation’s own technical expertise.
PBC had also connected its system with Nadra several months ago, allowing its pensioners to access the new verification facility as soon as the application became operational.
The development followed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s launch of NADRA’s national Proof of Life system in the capital on Aug 20.
Addressing the launch ceremony, the prime minister described biometric and facial recognition based verification as a service to humanity and said the digital system would benefit millions of pensioners across the country.
With the new facility now operational, Radio Pakistan pensioners can complete their verification remotely, eliminating the need for routine visits to banks or government offices.
The digital system was expected to provide particular relief to elderly pensioners and those who face mobility or travel difficulties.
It would also help maintain accurate pension records, prevent fraudulent or duplicate claims and reduce payment disruptions caused by delays in the verification process.
The initiative reinforces Radio Pakistan’s position as a pioneer among public sector organisations in adopting digital solutions to improve governance, transparency and service delivery.
