Grain storage facility expanded in South Punjab
MULTAN, Sep 02 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Salma Butt on Wednesday inaugurated a grain storage facility established by global agricultural commodities processor Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) in South Punjab.
The facility will add approximately 40,000 metric tonnes to the region’s grain storage capacity, strengthening logistics infrastructure and supporting more efficient agricultural supply chains.
Speaking at the inauguration, Rubens Marques, LDC’s Head of South and Southeast Asia, said Pakistan was an important market for grains and a key destination for the company in South Asia, where growing populations and economies depended on strong, connected agricultural supply chains and trade flows.
“This investment in Pakistan strengthens our presence in the domestic market as well as our ability to meet evolving customer needs in the region, in line with LDC’s global strategy to further reinforce its core merchandising capabilities,” he said.
Muhammad Danyal, LDC’s Country Head for Pakistan and Head of Grains and Oilseeds for Pakistan, said the country’s strong agricultural base and growing demand for grains continued to create opportunities for the company.
“Investing in logistics infrastructure enhances our service to both suppliers and customers, supporting more efficient and resilient supply chains as Pakistan’s grains sector continues to develop, while contributing to local job creation,” he said.
Pakistan is one of South Asia’s major agricultural markets and among the world’s largest producers and consumers of wheat.
LDC, which established its presence in Pakistan in 2010, has since expanded its operations across the country’s cotton, grains, oilseeds, pulses, rice and sugar markets, including a strong position in wheat.
