MUZAFFARGARH, Sep 01 (APP): A 77-year-old man drowned while attempting to cross the Chenab River using empty water bottles tied around his body in the outskirts of Muzaffargarh, with his body recovered after a two-day search operation by Rescue 1122.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Mansoor Ahmed, the incident occurred near Spur No. 3 in Wafadar Pur village, Pir Jahaniyan, where 77-year-old Haq Nawaz, son of Barkhudar, went missing after drowning while trying to cross the river.
Rescue 1122 teams immediately reached the site and launched a search operation, but the operation had to be suspended until morning due to darkness. The following morning, an incident command post was established and a comprehensive search was launched using scuba divers, boats and boat patrolling.
During the two-day operation, the Rescue 1122 water search team covered approximately 37 kilometres of the river area. On the second day, the team located and recovered Haq Nawaz’s body from the river about one kilometre downstream from the site of the incident after around one-and-a-half hours of boat search.
The body was covered with a sheet and handed over to the deceased’s heirs.
Seven rescuers, five swimmers, two divers and a rescue boat participated in the extensive search operation, Rescue spokesman said.
