LAHORE, Sep 01 (APP): The Punjab government has taken another step towards making government hospitals infection-free by introducing specialized vehicles for the safe and hygienic transportation of infectious medical waste.
The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education has purchased seven specially designed refrigerated vehicles for government teaching hospitals, says a press release issued here on Tuesday.
The vehicles will be used exclusively to transport infectious and hazardous medical waste generated at hospitals to incinerators and microwave shredding facilities.
The interiors of the vehicles are made of specialized, easily washable materials that can be thoroughly disinfected after every discharge, ensuring hygienic handling of medical waste and minimizing the risk of contamination.
The dedicated fleet is expected to help ensure the safe disposal and transportation of hazardous medical waste and disease-causing pathogens, significantly reducing the risk of the spread of infections.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said the initiative was an important milestone in the modernization of Punjab’s healthcare infrastructure.
“Making government hospitals infection-free is one of our top priorities,” he said, adding that the provincial government was taking practical measures to improve infection-control standards and ensure a safer healthcare environment for patients and medical staff.
