HYDERABAD, Sep 01 (APP): The University of Sindh, Jamshoro, organized an HEC awareness & technical session on travel grants, seminar/conference grants and national research awards at the Senate Hall, Administration AC-II Building on Tuesday.
The session was organized by the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), University of Sindh, in collaboration with the Pakistan Study Centre, with the aim of enhancing faculty members’ and research scholars’ awareness of HEC funding and research recognition opportunities.
According to the university’s spokesperson, the event was held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari, who emphasized the importance of strengthening the university’s research culture and encouraging faculty members and research scholars to actively pursue competitive funding opportunities and national and international research recognition.
The session was formally opened by Director ORIC Prof. Dr. Farhat Naureen Memon, who highlighted the University of Sindh’s commitment to promoting a vibrant research ecosystem and supporting researchers in accessing competitive funding, developing quality research proposals and expanding the national and international visibility of their research.
The first session was delivered by Assistant Director Research & Innovation Division, HEC Islamabad Aijaz Ahmed, who provided a detailed awareness session on HEC travel grants and seminar/conference grants. He briefed participants on the available opportunities, eligibility requirements, application procedures and other important aspects of the schemes.
A specialized technical session on grant application preparation & submission was subsequently conducted by Dr. Nadir Ali Rind, Assistant Professor, Department of Textile Engineering, MUET Jamshoro. He provided practical guidance on developing effective grant proposals and highlighted important considerations for preparing and submitting competitive research funding applications.
Before the final session, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Main Campus, Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of the event in enabling researchers to better understand and utilize available HEC opportunities.
He encouraged faculty members and research scholars to actively avail themselves of these grant schemes and use such opportunities to showcase their research work at national and international forums and enhance the visibility of their contributions within the global research community.
The final awareness session on HEC National Outstanding Research Awards was delivered by Deputy Director, Research & Innovation Division, HEC Islamabad Muhammad Bilal Malik. He provided an overview of the awards including their significance, eligibility criteria and key considerations for researchers seeking national recognition for outstanding research contributions.
The session attracted active participation from faculty members and M.Phil, MS, and Ph.D research scholars representing various departments of the University of Sindh. The interactive nature of the program enabled participants to directly engage with HEC officials and experts and seek clarification on grant applications, funding procedures and research awards.
A comprehensive question-and-answer session followed the presentations, during which the resource persons responded to participants’ queries and provided practical guidance on various aspects of HEC grant schemes and research awards.
Addressing the gathering in his presidential remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari (T.I) reiterated the University of Sindh’s commitment to strengthening research excellence and creating greater opportunities for its researchers.
He urged faculty members and research scholars to make effective use of HEC funding schemes to enhance the quality and impact of their research, establish national and international collaborations and contribute to the university’s research profile and academic standing.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Shuja Ahmed Mahesar, who expressed appreciation to the HEC officials and resource persons for sharing their expertise, and to the university administration, faculty members, research scholars and organizers for their active participation and support in making the session a success.
