Working women to raise their voice against harassment: Shakeel Haider
LARKANA, Sep 01 (APP):The Regional Consultant of the Provincial Ombudsman for harassment against women Sindh, Regional Office Larkana, Syed Shakeel Haider, on Tuesday said that women working in institutions should develop courage and raise their voices against any harassment they face.
Addressing a seminar here at the (NICVD) Cardiac Hospital Larkana regarding the prevention of harassment of women at workplaces, he said if a woman was subjected to harassment, she should develop courage and confidence, raise her voice against it, collect evidence and should not remain silent, because silence was not the solution to the problem.
She should also share any harassment she faces with her parents and close family members for their support.
He said that complaints of harassment were addressed under the 2010 law, but for this purpose it is necessary for women to demonstrate responsibility and courage. Women also face harassment at workplaces, including hospitals; therefore, they should not remain silent and must raise their voices against such incidents, he added.
The Ombudsman office has been established to provide redressal and justice to the people. Moreover, if women working in government institutions face harassment, the concerned institution could take action against the harasser and lodge an inquiry against him.
On the occasion, Dr. Fayyaz Mujtaba Shah, Head of (NICVD) Larkana, Abdul Waheed Soomro, Administrator, Information Officer Larkana Muhammad Aslam Khokhar, Photographer Nazakat Ali Samo, officers and staff members of the institution and others also attended the seminar.
