RAWALPINDI, Sep 01 (APP):Police have arrested two men accused of posing as police touts and extorting money from citizens in the R.A. Bazaar area, as part of a crackdown ordered by City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera against corruption and the alleged tout mafia.
According to police, the suspects were identified as Ameer Badshah alias Hero and Hafeez Khan alias Mama. Money allegedly collected from citizens as extortion was also recovered from their possession.
Police said complaints had been received against the two suspects, alleging that they were involved in unlawful activities in the area while claiming to have the backing of former R.A. Bazaar SHO Sajjad Khan.
The development comes a day after the former SHO of R.A. Bazaar was suspended and placed on the department’s closed line. Departmental proceedings against the officer are currently under way.
A case has been registered against both arrested suspects at R.A. Bazaar Police Station, and further investigation is under way.
CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said the Rawalpindi Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. He urged citizens to report anyone involved in corrupt practices, assuring that strict action would be taken against those found involved.
