Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has welcomed the unanimous decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) affirming that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remains fully in force and that India has no valid grounds to unilaterally suspend or terminate the Treaty.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 01 (APP): Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has welcomed the unanimous decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) affirming that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remains fully in force and that India has no valid grounds to unilaterally suspend or terminate the Treaty.
He said the decision was a significant affirmation of international law, treaty obligations and the principle that disputes must be resolved through peaceful and established legal mechanisms.
Ayaz Sadiq said Pakistan had always respected international treaties and upheld international law and remained a strong proponent of dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The Speaker said the Indus Waters Treaty is an important international agreement, directly linked to the livelihood, agriculture, economic development and prosperity of the region.
He stressed that such a vital treaty must be respected and upheld in letter and spirit.
Ayaz Sadiq said India’s unilateral suspension of the IWT was not only contrary to the provisions of the Treaty but also inconsistent with the principles of international law.
He also noted that the PCA’s decision had further exposed the lack of legal justification for India’s attempt to place the Treaty in abeyance and underscored the importance of India fulfilling its obligations under the agreement.
Ayaz Sadiq said that the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by the Modi regime and its attempt to use water as a weapon against Pakistan amounted to water terrorism, with the potential to inflict serious humanitarian suffering, economic disruption and far-reaching consequences for regional peace and stability.
He said that the unilateral suspension of a vital international treaty and the use of water as a weapon against Pakistan was deeply concerning and contrary to the principles of international law.
NA Speaker welcomed the PCA’s decision regarding the Ratle Hydroelectric Plant and expressed hope that India would respect the decision and comply fully with its obligations under the IWT.
