Rawal Dam water level reaches 1,751.90 feet, spillways opened

ISLAMABAD, Sep 01 (APP):Following heavy rainfall in Islamabad and surrounding areas, the water level at Rawal Dam has risen to 1,751.90 feet, prompting authorities to open the dam’s spillways at 2:00 pm.

The district administration has directed Rescue 1122, police, and other departments to remain on high alert during the operation.

The District Administration Islamabad announced that the water level in Rawal Dam increased significantly after continuous rainfall across the federal capital and nearby regions.

According to officials, the reservoir’s water level reached 1,751.90 feet, leading authorities to decide to open the spillways to regulate the inflow and maintain safe water levels.

The administration has instructed Rescue 1122, Islamabad Police and other relevant departments to remain fully prepared during the release of water. Authorities have also directed all concerned institutions to implement necessary safety measures before and during the operation.

Officials said coordination among emergency and civic agencies is underway to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any developments resulting from increased water discharge.

The district administration urged residents to stay away from streams, drainage channels and low-lying areas while the spillways remain open. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary visits to locations near watercourses and to follow instructions issued by local authorities.

The administration said precautionary arrangements are being made to minimize risks and ensure public safety. Monitoring teams will continue to observe water levels and conditions around the dam throughout the operation.
