Zero tolerance for corruption, provision of civic facilities top priority: Commissioner Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Aug 31 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani on Monday chaired an important meeting of the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi and directed the concerned departments to ensure effective service delivery and timely resolution of public issues.
Additional Commissioner Coordination Zainia Humayun, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Faisal Shehzad and heads of all relevant departments attended the meeting.
The commissioner directed that special teams be constituted for drainage cleaning in Raja Bazaar and Commercial Market to prevent choking and ensure smooth drainage flow.
He said that there would be zero tolerance for corruption in DPDC and, in line with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, strict implementation of the zero-tolerance policy against corruption must be ensured.
He directed officials to accord top priority to public facilitation and deal with citizens courteously at all service delivery points while resolving their complaints promptly.
He also directed that the pace of all development projects being executed under the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi be accelerated and their completion ensured within the stipulated timeframe.
Commissioner Salman Ghani made it clear that illegal parchi mafia would not be tolerated anywhere in the city. He directed that anti-encroachment operations be continued without discrimination and pedestrian pathways outside commercial centres kept clear.
He further ordered regular monitoring of streetlights, parks and road repair works and called for an effective mechanism for redressal of public complaints.
The commissioner directed all MCR officers and staff to remain active in the field instead of confining themselves to offices, personally assess public issues on the spot and take immediate measures for their resolution.
He said provision of basic civic facilities to citizens was the government’s top priority and no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.
