Renovation of century-old Kot Naja Canal Rest House completed
SARGODHA, Aug 30 (APP):The Irrigation Department has successfully completed the repair, renovation, and restoration work of the century-old Kot Naja Canal Rest House under an ongoing campaign to preserve the historical heritage of the department.
According to a spokesman for the Irrigation Department, the restoration project was executed under the special directives and supervision of Chief Engineer Irrigation Sargodha Zone, Sadaqat Latif.
The spokesman highlighted that the Kot Naja Canal Rest House has been an integral part of the history of the Irrigation Department in Sargodha for over a century. Constructed during the British era, such structures stand as prime examples of architectural art and engineering excellence while reflecting the evolutionary history of Punjab’s canal system.
He stated that special care was taken during the restoration process to retain the original historical identity and traditional architectural style of the building, ensuring its preservation while adapting it to meet modern requirements.
“The irrigation system is not merely composed of canals, barrages, and water structures; the historical buildings, canal rest houses, and official residences attached to it are equally vital parts of our proud history,” the spokesman added.
He further noted that under the leadership of Chief Engineer Sadaqat Latif, attention is also being given to the restoration and preservation of other historical irrigation facilities across the Sargodha Zone to prevent these monuments from decay and safeguard them for future generations.
Meanwhile, local citizens lauded the department’s initiative, noting that preserving historical infrastructure is equivalent to protecting history itself. They remarked that the restoration of the Kot Naja Canal Rest House demonstrates the Irrigation Department’s commitment to preserving its century-long engineering legacy alongside modernizing the canal network.
