ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police reported a 27 per cent decline in crime against property during 2026 compared with 2025, while claiming a 100 per cent success rate in tracing all murder cases reported in the federal capital during the year.
A police spokesperson told APP on Sunday that Islamabad had also been ranked the 83rd safest city among 401 cities in the latest Numbeo World Safety Index, placing the federal capital ahead of London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow and Istanbul.
The spokesperson said all accused involved in murder cases reported during the current year had been arrested. Major cases, including the Group Captain Asim Tariq case, H-9 triple murder and the murder of businessman Amir Awan, were successfully solved.
Police also cited the Alfalah Bank robbery among several major cases solved within a short period through professional investigation.
During anti-crime operations, ICT Police registered more than 14,645 cases and arrested over 887 court absconders, 1,595 habitual offenders and 944 proclaimed offenders.
Under the “Nasha! Ab Nahi” anti-drug campaign, 1,144 drug dealers were arrested and a large quantity of narcotics recovered. Another 1,592 suspects were arrested for possessing illegal weapons under the special “No to Weapon” campaign.
The spokesperson said police stations were being upgraded under the Special Initiative Police Stations (SIPS) programme to provide modern facilities, a better environment and citizen-friendly policing.
The “Police Station on Wheels” service was launched to take immediate police services to citizens and facilitate registration of FIRs at the spot.
Operational capacity of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Anti-Riot Unit and other specialised formations was also enhanced through modern equipment and resources, while command and control centres established at Safe City and CTD improved surveillance and response capabilities.
Special SWAT and DELTA units were established to provide rapid response in high-risk situations. Mounted, foot and motorcycle patrol units were deployed on Margalla trails for the safety of citizens and tourists.
City Watchers and night patrolling officers were deployed in commercial areas to prevent crime, while a modern K-9 Unit was established to detect explosives and other dangerous materials.
A Special Protection Unit was also established for the security of Chinese nationals.
The spokesperson said Safe City Islamabad had been upgraded with modern technology to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention. Technology-driven initiatives, including AI-based Hunch Lab, cybersecurity systems and Virtual Patrolling Officer, were also introduced.
Police established the CASCADE Police Service Centre in the Diplomatic Enclave to provide priority police services to foreign diplomatic missions, while a Foreign Media Cell was set up to project Islamabad Police’s position at the international level.
An Online Women Police Station was launched to improve women’s safety and empowerment, while the IGP Complaint Cell and helpline 1715 were activated for prompt redressal of public complaints.
In the traffic sector, the ITP Uraan Scooty and Motor Riding School was launched to provide professional riding training to women. Modern public facilitation initiatives, including ITP Facilitation on Wheels, were also introduced.
The spokesperson said summer schools, self-defence courses and a community horse-riding club were being regularly organised to strengthen police-public relations.
Various welfare initiatives, including a Health and Sports Gala, were launched for police officers and personnel, while specialised training courses and workshops at the Capital Police College continued to improve professional skills and modern policing practices.
On the security front, Islamabad Police provided security to four international conferences and 636 national and foreign delegations during the year.
Effective security arrangements were also made for 191 VVIP movements and 682 protests and rallies. Police provided security to 636 important programmes, including 16 joint sittings of the National Assembly and Senate, the spokesperson added.
Under the “Go Green” initiative, environment-friendly electric vehicles were inducted into the Islamabad Police patrolling fleet.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said modern policing, technology, crime prevention and improved public service were being combined to make Islamabad Police a more effective and citizen-friendly institution.
