Parliamentary Secretary for Housing reviews WASA Rawalpindi development projects, monsoon preparations

RAWALPINDI, Aug 29 (APP): The Parliamentary Secretary for Housing Urban Development and Public Health Engineering (HUD&PHE) Sultan Bajwa visited the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi to review ongoing projects under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) and assess preparations for the ongoing monsoon season.

Managing Director WASA Rawalpindi Azizullah Khan received the parliamentary secretary upon his arrival.

The meeting was held at the MD’s office, attended by Deputy Managing Director Sohail Sindhu, Director Finance Tahir Bashir, Director Water Supply Anum Javed and other senior WASA officials.

During the meeting, MD WASA Azizullah Khan briefed Sultan Bajwa on development projects being executed under the Punjab Development Programme in line with the development vision of the Punjab Chief Minister.

He provided updates on the various projects. The MD said major projects were underway to improve water supply, sewerage and drainage systems across the city.

Upon completion, these initiatives would significantly improve water and sewerage services for residents and strengthen WASA’s basic infrastructure.

Azizullah Khan also briefed the parliamentary secretary on WASA Rawalpindi’s preparations for the monsoon season.

He said field teams had been placed on alert, while vulnerable and low-lying areas were being continuously monitored. Arrangements had also been made to ensure the availability of heavy machinery and dewatering pumps so that residents could receive timely relief in case of heavy rainfall.

He added that WASA field teams remain on alert round the clock during the monsoon season and coordination with relevant departments had been further strengthened to ensure the timely drainage of rainwater.

Sultan Bajwa reviewed the pace and progress of the projects being implemented under the Punjab Development Programme and expressed satisfaction with the overall progress. He also appreciated WASA Rawalpindi’s monsoon arrangements and the performance of its field teams.

The parliamentary secretary directed WASA authorities to further accelerate work on all ongoing PDP projects and ensure their completion within the stipulated timelines so that citizens could benefit from the initiatives at the earliest.

He also directed officials to continuously monitor project progress and utilise all available resources to provide quality civic services to the public.

Sultan Bajwa said completion of the projects under the Punjab Development Programme would bring significant improvements in the provision of basic civic facilities to the people of Rawalpindi.
