DIG Investigation takes action against officers over corruption

LAHORE, Aug 29 (APP): Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigation Lahore Syed Zeeshan Raza on Saturday took departmental action against police officers and officials over allegations of corruption and misuse of authority, while hearing 22 show-cause notices and 72 appeals during departmental proceedings.

During the proceedings, Investigation In-charge of Akbari Gate Police Station Muhammad Anwar was demoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector, suspended and directed to report to the Central Police Office over corruption and misuse of authority.

Sub-Inspector Liaquat Ali of Kahna Police Station and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mustansar of Gulberg Police Station were also suspended and ordered to report to the Central Police Office over corruption. The SP Model Town was directed to conduct an inquiry against both officials.

Inspector Alam Langrial was awarded a major departmental punishment for misuse of authority.

The DIG also ordered forfeiture of two years’ service each of Sub-Inspectors Mansha Khan, Muhammad Aslam and Naveed Shafiq for misuse of authority. Similarly, two years’ service of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Yousaf and ASI Muhammad Abbas was ordered to be forfeited.

Other officers and officials were awarded departmental punishments for failing to furnish satisfactory replies to show-cause notices. Appeals filed by 35 officers and officials were rejected, while warnings were issued to other officers who appeared before the departmental forum.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza said an effective mechanism of self-accountability was in place in the police department. He said the department had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misuse of authority, adding that departmental hearings were aimed at ensuring transparency and strengthening the process of self-accountability. “Hardworking, competent and honest police personnel are an asset to the department,” he said.
