Temporary load management due to RLNG shortage, delayed cargo: Power Division

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29 (APP): The Power Division on Saturday said temporary load management of around one-and-a-half to three hours was carried out during the night-time peak hours due to non-availability of Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) and delayed arrival of the scheduled cargo.

According to the Power Division spokesperson, the shortage of RLNG resulted in a reduction of around 3,600 megawatts in power generation, while generation from Mangla also declined by 195 MW, necessitating temporary load management during the night peak hours.

The spokesperson said furnace-oil-based power plants were also operated during the peak hours to help meet the country’s electricity demand.

He said load management would be reduced as soon as the RLNG cargoes arrived and requested electricity consumers to moderate their consumption during the night-time peak hours to help minimize load management.

The Power Division clarified that no load management was being carried out during daytime hours. However, areas subjected to load management due to high distribution losses were being supplied electricity according to the announced schedules.

The spokesperson expressed regret to electricity consumers for the temporary load management during night hours caused by the non-availability of RLNG.
