FIA arrests three agents outside Garden Town Passport Office
LAHORE, Aug 29 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore on Saturday arrested three members of an agent mafia allegedly involved in illegally collecting money from citizens in the name of obtaining passports.
According to an FIA spokesperson,the action was carried out outside the Passport Office in Garden Town,Lahore, where three suspects identified as Nadeem, Muneer Ahmed and Muhammad Amjad were arrested.
The suspects, who belong to different areas of Lahore,were allegedly collecting illegal payments from citizens seeking passports and charging them additional amounts by falsely promising expedited issuance of passports.
During the operation,the FIA team recovered passports,tokens,bank challans,receipts and other important evidence from the possession of the arrested suspects.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused and investigations were underway,the spokesperson said.
He added that raids were being conducted at different locations to apprehend other members of the agent mafia, while the scope of the ongoing investigation against the passport agent mafia had also been further expanded.
