PDMA issues rain alert for Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert in view of the eighth spell of monsoon rains in the province.

LAHORE, Aug 28 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert in view of the eighth spell of monsoon rains in the province.
According to the forecast of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rains are likely in most districts of Punjab from August 29 to September 5.
According to the PDMA, heavy rains are expected in Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala and other cities, while urban flooding has been feared in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot.
According to DG PDMA Anwar Jappa, there is a risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas, while flash flooding in rainwater drains.
DG PDMA has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert and make necessary arrangements to deal with possible emergencies.
PDMA has also issued an alert to relevant departments including the Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communications, Local Government and Livestock departments.
