ISLAMABAD, Aug 28 (APP): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, windstorms and thundershowers across the upper parts of the country over the coming days.
The officials say monsoon currents are entering these regions, and a westerly weather system approaching from August 31 will add to the rain until September 5.
The isolated heavy falls are also expected in several areas, raising the risk of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides.
In Kashmir, rain, wind and thundershowers are expected from the evening of August 28 until September 6, with breaks in between.
The areas likely to be affected include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.
In Islamabad and upper Punjab, wet and windy weather is expected from August 29 to September 5 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Hafizabad. Other districts, including Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal and Pakpattan, will see similar weather from September 1 to 5.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain, wind and thundershowers are forecast from August 29 to September 5 in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur. The southern districts of Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Waziristan will experience similar weather from September 1 to 4.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain, wind and thundershowers are expected from August 30 to September 6 in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar. Sindh and Balochistan will continue to experience mainly hot and humid weather during this period.
The PMD has warned that heavy rain could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore from August 31 to September 5. Flash flooding in local streams and nullahs is also possible in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Landslides may occur in the hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir.
The authorities have advised tourists and travelers to remain cautious during this period and asked farmers to plan their crop activities according to the weather conditions.
