PESHAWAR, Aug 28 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Commission has made comprehensive fire safety measures mandatory in all public and private hospitals across the province and issued directives to this effect.
According to the notification, all healthcare establishments have been directed to install effective systems for timely detection and prevention of fire emergencies.
Hospitals have also been required to maintain fire extinguishers, fireproof blankets and buckets filled with sand for immediate response to any fire incident.
The Commission has further directed hospital administrations to prepare written evacuation plans, clearly mark emergency exits and ensure that all escape routes remain accessible and free from obstructions at all times.
Regular fire safety mock drills have also been made mandatory to prepare hospital staff for emergencies.
The staff must be provided appropriate training, while responsibilities of individual employees during a fire emergency are to be clearly defined.
To monitor compliance, district committees have been constituted across KP to inspect fire safety arrangements in all public and private hospitals.
The committees will examine fire safety systems, emergency exits, electrical installations and oxygen safety arrangements and submit their inspection reports within seven days.
The Healthcare Commission has directed all healthcare institutions to ensure strict compliance with prescribed fire safety standards.
