KARACHI, Aug 27 (APP): Speakers at a seminar, terming Mecca Joint Defence Agreement as a symbol of Muslim Unity, on Thursday hailed Pakistani leadership for making the right decision at the right time.
The “Seminar on Mecca Joint Defence Accord” was organized by the Press Information Department (PID) Regional Office Karachi, and senior diplomat Ghulam Rasool Baloch, senior officers, academicians and students participated.
Ambassador (r) Ghulam Rasool Baloch highlighted the transition of global order from a Uni-polar to Multi-polar world where the decades-long US hegemony was diminishing and China has emerged as a new power.
During all this metamorphosis, Pakistan has successfully retained an ideal stance on the diplomatic fronts and skillfully maintained or even strengthened its diplomatic relations with USA, China and other European powers simultaneously, he said.
Terming Hindutava and Zionism as two major challenges encountered by Muslim Ummah in the present era, he said that both of the hostile ideologies were in alliance and their nexus is a constant threat for the entire Ummah.
The BJP led and Hindutava dominated India is a constant existential threat to Pakistan and evolving Middle East situation indicating potential threat of Israeli strikes on Turkiye while on the other hand, Saudi Arab and other GCC states had witnessed that USA could not protect them during the Harmoz escalation, he argued.
Discussing the recently concluded “Mecca Joint Defence Agreement”, ambassador Baloch said that in the emerging regional and international scenario it is for deterrence not aggression while Israel’s inhuman actions in Gaza, Palestine and aggression against Iran were among the major triggers of the accord.
Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia are middle powers having distinctive characteristics, institutional strength and regional influences and this agreement has gathered them around the common central point- defence and security, he noted, adding that entering into the Mecca Accord was a strategic choice for Pakistan and it will further strengthen its global standing.
The entire Muslim Ummah has dreamt for the Unity of Muslims and this agreement is a glorious example of unity of Muslim countries, he said and stressed on further deepening and consolidation of the pact on the foundations of common grounds.
He said that our leadership, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir made the right decision at the right time that will fetch long term benefits for Pakistan in future.
Dr Sidra Ahmed, speaking at the seminar, emphasized that Mecca Joint Defence Agreement is not only a symbol of unity of Muslim Ummah but it possesses a symbolic international significance particularly in the phase of emergence of a multi polar world and changing power dynamics.
Shedding light on different theories of International Relations, she said that Mecca pact was a significant agreement in regional security perspectives and USA, China and European countries, except Greece and Cyprus, have praised the agreement. Anxiety being observed in Indian and Israeli quarters showed that it was a development in the right direction, she remarked.
Pakistan is playing smartly in the diplomatic arena and reinforcing its positions in the region and beyond, she said and admired Field Marshal Asim Munir and other leadership for steering the country towards a dignified status in the international community.
Stressing the expansion of the accord to other Muslim countries, she said that Bangladesh, Indonesia and Egypt expressed intent to join the accord and inclusion of more Muslim states including Iran will further expand the security umbrella.
Director General PID Karachi, Iram Tanveer stated that the Mecca Joint Defence Accord symbolizes the expanding unity of the Muslim world and represents a major diplomatic success for all Muslim nations, particularly Pakistan.
She highlighted the critical circumstances of Palestine due to the oppressive actions of Israel amid ineffectiveness of UN and later Iran’s effective response to Israeli aggression and said that the conspiracies and coercive actions of Zionist and Hindutava ideologies were a constant threat to peace and stability of the whole world.
