Punjab police, prosecution vow closer coordination to ensure swift justice

LAHORE, Aug 27 (APP): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Rao Abdul Karim visited the office of the Prosecutor General Punjab on Thursday, where he was warmly received by Prosecutor General Irfan Sadiq Tarar.

During the visit, the Prosecutor General presented the IGP with a commemorative shield. A high-level meeting was subsequently held between senior officials of the Punjab Police and the Prosecution Department to discuss measures for strengthening the criminal justice system, improving the quality of investigations and further enhancing institutional coordination.

The participants agreed that the police and prosecution departments were two essential components of the criminal justice system and that close cooperation between the two institutions was vital to ensuring speedy, affordable and effective justice for the public.

Speaking at the meeting, Prosecutor General Irfan Sadiq Tarar said legal assistance in investigation matters was being improved in line with modern requirements. The objective, he said, was to strengthen prosecution cases before courts, improve conviction rates and ensure that offenders received punishment according to law.

IGP Rao Abdul Karim said police officers had been directed to complete investigations in consultation with prosecution’s legal experts so that cases submitted by the police could be strengthened in accordance with the law.

He stressed that stronger coordination between investigators and prosecutors would help accelerate the process of providing justice to victims.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to further strengthen the coordination mechanism between the two institutions to ensure timely submission of challans in serious criminal cases and merit-based investigations.
