ISLAMABAD, Aug 25 (APP):Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah on Tuesday referred a calling attention notice regarding continuous river erosion and the resulting flood threat in District Layyah, Punjab, to the relevant committee.
Responding to the calling attention notice, Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Mueen Wattoo said around 300,000 cusecs of water was currently flowing due to the high water flow.
He said all necessary measures would be taken once the water level receded. He added that the administration was vigilant and actively working on the situation.
The minister said he fully understood and respected the concerns raised by the member regarding the affected people.
He assured the House that compensation had been provided to people affected by erosion and other damages during previous floods.
“If any compensation remains unpaid, I will find out about it and ensure that the complaint is addressed,” he said.
Responding to another question about funds, the minister said the current situation was difficult due to the exceptionally high water flow, which was around 350,000 cusecs.
He said provincial governments had provided compensation from their own resources. However, further details about the funds could be provided after reviewing the matter.
The minister agreed to refer the matter to the Standing Committee for further consideration and assured the House that he would obtain the relevant information and respond to the committee.
The deputy speaker said the matter had been referred to the committee and the concerned member could raise the issue there after necessary preparations.
