PESHAWAR, Aug 24 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken disciplinary action against 589 government officers and employees after concluding 629 of the 827 accountability cases registered since October 2025.
A briefing at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi revealed that 198 cases were still under process, while 40 employees were exonerated in the decided cases, said a press release.
The action taken includes removal of 128 employees from service, dismissal of 18, compulsory retirement of six, demotion of two and recovery from the salaries of 89 employees. One employee was arrested, and promotions of 39 others were withheld.
In addition, 16 employees were charge-sheeted, 14 faced salary cuts, and 10 were suspended. Warnings were issued to 155 employees, while 52 were reprimanded.
Unauthorized absence emerged as the most common offence, accounting for 447 cases, or around 54 percent of the total. Other cases included negligence of duty in 120 cases, corruption and financial irregularities in 75, incompetence in 75, misconduct in 14, poor supervision in 13 and violation of rules in 11 cases.
The meeting was informed that the accountability drive also included 221 show-cause notices, 279 explanation cases, 184 inquiries, 102 suspensions, 23 expressions of displeasure, and nine cases of officers being placed on the OSD list.
District offices accounted for 305 cases, attached departments and institutions 263, and central departments 259 cases.
During field inspections in the health sector, disciplinary action was also taken against 90 employees at District Headquarters Hospital Swabi and 61 employees at DHQ Hospital Lakki Marwat.
The chief minister said accountability would be ensured without discrimination, while transparency, merit and good governance remained the government’s top priorities.
He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption, saying corrupt elements would have no place in the province.
