Renewable energy vital for energy security,industrial growth: Saif-Ur-Rehman
LAHORE, Aug 23 (APP):Coordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman Saif-Ur-Rehman on Sunday said renewable energy was a strategic imperative for Pakistan’s future and stressed the need to accelerate the transition towards clean,affordable and sustainable energy sources to meet growing power requirements.
Talking to a delegation of industrialists here,he said Pakistan possessed enormous potential for solar,wind,hydropower and other renewable energy resources which, if properly harnessed,could substantially reduce dependence on imported fuels and help conserve valuable foreign exchange.
Saif-Ur-Rehman said expansion of renewable energy would provide a strong foundation for industrial growth, enhance energy security and create new employment opportunities for skilled youth.
He urged the government to introduce consistent and investor-friendly policies, simplify regulatory procedures and encourage greater private-sector participation in renewable energy projects.
He said development of decentralized solar systems, particularly for agriculture,small businesses and households, could help reduce pressure on the national grid while improving access to reliable electricity.
He stressed the need for modern technology,research and public-private partnerships to develop Pakistan’s renewable energy sector.
A long-term national strategy, supported by effective implementation, he added, would enable Pakistan to move towards a greener economy and achieve sustainable economic development.
