KARACHI, Aug 22 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the under-construction Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital in Malir on Saturday and reviewed progress on the state-of-the-art healthcare facility being established with the support of the Sindh government for US$ 23.5 million.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare services for all citizens and directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely completion of the project.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Principal Secretary Agha Wasif. Upon his arrival, he was received by Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital’s trustee Dr Javed Suleman, Secretary Health Tahir Sangi, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Sindh Prof Dr Tariq Rafi, Executive Director NICVD Prof Tahir Saghir and other officials. The visit was
attended by Architect Shahid Abdullah and other senior officials.
During the visit, the Chief Minister toured various sections of the hospital, including wards and healthcare facilities under development. He was briefed in detail about the project’s scope, progress, facilities and operational plans.
The briefing informed the Chief Minister that the concept of the Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital was developed by Pakistani physicians based in Pakistan and the United States. The project was initiated under the leadership of Dr Javed Suleman with the objective of providing high-quality and affordable healthcare services to the people of Sindh.
Officials stated that Malir was selected as the location due to the shortage of advanced healthcare facilities in the area. They added that the President of Pakistan, the Sindh Government and the Chief Minister had extended full support to the project from its inception.
The Sindh government provided land for the hospital and approved a matching grant for its construction. The hospital is being developed as a modern 312-bed healthcare facility spread over approximately 323,000 square feet.
According to the briefing, the hospital will feature advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities, including MRI and CT Scan services, modern cardiac care units, emergency services, outpatient departments (OPD), intensive care units (ICU) and coronary care units (CCU).
The total cost of the project is estimated at US$ 23.5 million. Construction commenced in December 2022, and the hospital is expected to be inaugurated on December 25.
Addressing the participants, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital would significantly improve access to quality healthcare for the residents of Malir and surrounding areas. “This hospital is fully aligned with the Sindh Government’s agenda of providing quality healthcare services to every citizen,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the Sindh government was a key partner in the project and remained committed to supporting initiatives that improve public health services. “Our foremost priority is to ensure that every citizen of Sindh has access to the best possible medical treatment and healthcare facilities,” he said.
He noted that Sindh’s Public-Private Partnership model had proven highly successful in delivering essential services and that the government would continue collaborating with private partners and philanthropic organisations to strengthen the healthcare sector.
“The health sector is an area where public-private partnerships can make a real difference in people’s lives, and we are committed to expanding such collaborations,” he added.
Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work, the Chief Minister directed the project team and the Health Department to maintain the construction schedule and ensure that all facilities meet the highest healthcare standards.
He also instructed the authorities to prepare an effective operational and management plan well before the hospital’s inauguration so that services could be made available to the public immediately after completion.
The Chief Minister said he was eagerly looking forward to December when the hospital would be formally inaugurated and begin serving the people.
He also highlighted another major healthcare initiative being undertaken, noting that a 600-bed hospital project had also been launched in Larkana to further strengthen healthcare services in the province.
