Crackdown ordered against overloading,gas cylinders in school transport

LAHORE, Aug 22 (APP):Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore,Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi on Saturday ordered a crackdown against overloading and the use of gas cylinders in school vans, rickshaws and buses.
The CTO directed traffic police to take strict action against vehicles carrying schoolchildren in violation of safety regulations,stressing that LPG cylinders would not be allowed in any van,wagon or rickshaw used for school transport.
He said strict enforcement would be ensured to protect children,adding that no rickshaw driver would be allowed to seat a child in the front seat.
According to the CTO,hanging schoolbags or other items on the sides of rickshaws would also not be permitted. Similarly,passengers would not be allowed to sit in the front seat of rickshaws operating on Canal Road.
He further directed that pickup drivers would not be allowed to carry more than one passenger on the front seat.
The CTO directed DSPs and the Education Unit to inform school administrations and parents about the safety measures.
He urged parents to realize their responsibility and ensure safe transportation for their children.
