PESHAWAR, Aug 21 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has seized and discarded more than 4,000 kilograms of substandard and adulterated food items during a province-wide crackdown, with several businesses fined and legal proceedings initiated against violators.
The crackdown, conducted in Peshawar, Abbottabad, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi and Kohat, resulted in the disposal of 1,200 kg of spoiled liver and hearts, 200 kg of adulterated minced meat, 500 kg of unfit meat, 150 kg of substandard frozen chicken and meat, and 800 kg of adulterated spices.
In addition, around 1,200 litres of contaminated milk were destroyed in Abbottabad after a mobile testing laboratory detected skim milk, glucose and detergent in samples taken from a milk tanker.
In Peshawar’s Gulbahar area, officials recovered 1,200 kg of spoiled liver and hearts reportedly supplied from Lahore. The supplier could not produce traceability records for the meat, prompting further legal action under the Food Safety Act.
The authority also sealed a meat shop in Nowshera over the sale of unfit meat, while violators in other districts were fined.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan said strict and indiscriminate action would continue against those involved in the preparation, sale and supply of unsafe and adulterated food.
He urged citizens to report the sale of substandard food to the Food Authority, saying public cooperation was essential to protect consumers’ health.
