ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Secretary Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Dr. Shahida Rehmani has extended her warm congratulations to the Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on the constitution of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.
Dr. Rehmani welcomed the move describing it as an important step towards strengthening women’s parliamentary participation and providing a collective platform for women legislators in Gilgit-Baltistan.
She appreciated the leadership and support of the Speaker in bringing women parliamentarians from different political parties together under the platform of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.
She further highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, peer learning and technical support to strengthen the institutional role of the Caucus and enhance the effective participation of women parliamentarians in legislative and parliamentary processes.
She hoped Gilgit-Baltistan Women’s Parliamentary Caucus would play an effective role in promoting women’s rights, gender-responsive legislation and issues of importance to women and girls in Gilgit-Baltistan. She also expressed her desire to strengthen linkages between the National Assembly WPC and that of the Gilgit-Baltistan’s through joint consultations, learning initiatives and continued parliamentary cooperation.
