ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP):Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad on Thursday organized a conference on patient safety to raise awareness among healthcare workers about preventing medical errors and ensuring safe treatment for patients.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Sabeen Afzal, JED said that “do no harm to the patient” is the first and basic principle of patient safety and healthcare. She said patient safety involves organized actions, procedures, technology, staff behavior and a safe environment to reduce risks, prevent avoidable harm and minimize the impact of errors.
Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhutto said patient safety means preventing errors and harmful effects associated with healthcare and improving patient outcomes.
He also highlighted the concept of a zero-waste lifestyle, which aims to reduce waste, reuse materials and recycle wherever possible while protecting patients, staff and the environment.
MS Lubna, IPC nurse, said the main goal of patient safety is to follow WHO standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure quality healthcare services and prevent medical errors and adverse effects related to diagnosis, treatment and other medical interventions.
IPC, housekeeping and janitorial staff attended the conference. The participants were encouraged to follow safety measures and standard procedures to help protect patients, staff and the environment and save lives.
