The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Punjab government have agreed to hold local body (LB) elections in the province between December 15, 2026 to January 15, 2027.
LB elections in Punjab to be held between Dec 15 to Jan 15

LAHORE, Aug 20 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Punjab government have agreed to hold local body (LB) elections in the province between December 15, 2026 to January 15, 2027.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja regarding the date for setting the election dates for local governments in Punjab, in which the Election Commission was briefed on the completion of the delimitation process in Punjab.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja said that holding local body elections is a constitutional requirement under Article 140A of the Constitution. Under the Elections Act, it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold elections within 120 days of the expiry of the term of local governments.
Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that the Chief Minister Punjab is committed to holding local body elections in the province, time is needed to hold the elections and provide adequate resources.
Zeeshan Rafique further said that the dates of December 15 to January 15 were proposed keeping in mind the exams and foggy conditions.
The Chief Secretary Punjab said that the provincial government wants to hold local body elections in phases, the Election Commission has sought a plan from the Punjab government regarding the phased elections soon.
