ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP):Students of the Department of Media and Communication Studies, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, on Wednesday have clinched third prize at the National Climate Justice Youth Film Festival 2026, organized by the Indus Consortium at the Headquarters of the Pakistan Red Crescent, Ashfaq Ahmed Road, Sector H-8/2, Islamabad.
The festival focused on the theme “Electric Vehicles and Their Role in Combating Climate Change.”                                        Students and young filmmakers from various universities participated in the festival and presented documentaries highlighting climate change, environmental challenges and possible solutions.
The winning team from the University of Sindh comprised Shayan Ali, Alisha Rind, Shehnaz Baloch and Zulfiqar Lashari, all students of the Department of Media and Communication Studies, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Their achievement brought recognition to the university and the department at the national-level festival.

Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Fateh Marri highly appreciated the efforts of students from various universities and praised the quality of documentaries presented at the festival.
He said that the time had come for young people to play a proactive role in addressing the growing challenge of climate change.
Professor Marri said the theme of the festival was highly relevant to contemporary environmental challenges.                                    He emphasized that the transition towards electric vehicles was becoming inevitable as countries sought to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner transportation.
He noted that the Government of Pakistan was striving to achieve the target of having 30 percent of new cars sold in the country as electric vehicles by 2030.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated the University of Sindh students and all other participants for their creative efforts and use of documentary filmmaking to create awareness about climate change.
He also appreciated the Indus Consortium for organizing the event and providing young people with a platform to showcase their creativity and engage with critical environmental issues.
“Engaging youth in climate-related initiatives is a positive and necessary step.Young people are not only the future but also an important part of the solution to the climate crisis,” Professor Marri said.
