PSX stays bearish, loses another 1,109 points

The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued its bearish trajectory on Wednesday, shedding 1,109.15 points, a negative change of 0.62 percent, to close at 176,846.36 points against 177,955.51 points recorded in the previous trading session.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP): The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued its bearish trajectory on Wednesday, shedding 1,109.15 points, a negative change of 0.62 percent, to close at 176,846.36 points against 177,955.51 points recorded in the previous trading session.
The ready market witnessed a trading volume of 787.893 million shares, compared to 1.038 billion shares traded in the previous session, while the traded value decreased to Rs39.567 billion from Rs50.741 billion. Market capitalisation declined to Rs19.814 trillion from Rs19.906 trillion recorded a day earlier.
Out of 496 companies that traded in the ready market, 185 posted gains, 271 suffered losses, while 40 remained unchanged, reflecting a persistent bearish trend across the market.
Cnergyico PK led the volume chart with 217.459 million shares, followed by Fast Cables Ltd. with 27.382 million shares and Aisha Steel Mill with 27.214 million shares.
Among the top gainers, Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited surged by Rs75.88 to close at Rs25,273.97, while Hoechst Pakistan Limited advanced by Rs73.01 to settle at Rs4,073.00.
On the losing side, Attock Refinery Limited declined by Rs51.31 to close at Rs1,064.03, while The Thal Industries Corporation Limited fell by Rs45.39 to Rs1,365.21.
In the futures (DFC) market, turnover stood at 182.775 million shares with a traded value of Rs10.708 billion, compared with 248.174 million shares worth Rs14.100 billion in the previous session.
Of the 308 companies traded in the DFC market, 83 advanced, 220 declined, and 5 remained unchanged.
