ISLAMABAD, Aug 19 (APP):A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Power Division, Dr. Fakhar-e-Alam Irfan, to review progress on the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters by Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on all provincial and federal government-owned connections.
The meeting was informed that all DISCOs across the country have commenced replacement of existing meters on government premises, in compliance with the Prime Minister’s directives, said a press release issued on Wednesday.
The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure billing transparency and to resolve longstanding reconciliation issues regarding government payables.
It was decided that 90% of such connections shall be upgraded with AMIs by the end of September 2026 (within one month). Furthermore, the Secretary Power Division directed all DISCO CEOs to take all necessary measures to achieve 100% replacement of government electricity meters with AMI within the stipulated timeline.
