Rain-related roof collapse claims 2 lives, injures 17-year-old girl in Madina Town

ISLAMABAD, Aug 18 (APP): A roof collapse triggered by rainfall left two people dead and a 17-year-old girl injured in Madina Town, according to the district administration.
The incident occurred when a house roof gave way during rain, trapping members of a family under the debris.
Officials said the deceased were a husband and wife aged between 50 and 60 years. Both sustained serious injuries in the collapse and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, they later died from their injuries.
A 17-year-old girl was also injured in the incident. Rescue teams shifted her to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
According to the district administration, an initial assessment found that the roof was built using mud and wooden beams, making the structure vulnerable during heavy rainfall. The weakened construction could not withstand the pressure caused by the weather conditions, leading to the collapse.
Local authorities responded to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. Rescue and emergency teams took part in recovery efforts and assisted the affected family.
The district administration said further details are being gathered, while officials continue to monitor the condition of the injured girl.
Authorities urged residents living in vulnerable buildings to take precautionary measures and report any structural concerns to the relevant departments to help prevent similar incidents.
