Experts issue advisory to tackle rice leaf folding pest

MULTAN, Aug 18 (APP): The Punjab Agriculture Department on Tuesday issued an advisory to rice growers following field reports indicating the incidence of rice leaf folder pest in paddy crops in some areas of the province.
According to the advisory, farmers have been advised to conduct regular weekly pest scouting of their rice fields and ensure timely removal of weeds to help control the pest.
The department also recommended installation of light traps and advised growers to avoid excessive use of nitrogenous fertilizers.
The advisory stated that if the pest attack exceeded the economic threshold level, farmers should apply appropriate pesticides only after consultation with local agriculture experts of the department.
Farmers were further advised to strictly observe the Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI) while applying pesticides to ensure food safety and maintain the quality of the rice crop.
Agriculture officials urged growers to remain vigilant and adopt recommended pest management practices to prevent losses to the rice crop.
