FDA directed to double surveillance activities under anti-dengue campaign

Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhary has ordered officials to double the surveillance activities under the anti-dengue campaign.

FAISALABAD, Aug 18 (APP):Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhary has ordered officials to double the surveillance activities under the anti-dengue campaign.
He directed the relevant staff to remain more vigilant and proactive than before and ensure the timely identification and effective elimination of potential breeding sites of dengue larvae, so that the possible spread of dengue mosquitoes during the current season can be effectively prevented.
Assigning a special task to Additional Director General FDA Qaiser Abbas Rind, the DG directed that the performance of surveillance staff be monitored on a daily basis to make the anti-dengue campaign result-oriented, and the officials found negligent or careless in the discharge of their duties would be held accountable.
He said that traditional measures alone were not sufficient to deal with potential dengue threats. Therefore, continuous surveillance, prompt action and a responsible approach were essential.
In compliance with the DG’s directives, Additional Director General FDA Qaiser Abas Rind immediately convened an emergency meeting and conducted a detailed review of the performance of the anti-dengue surveillance staff. Director Town Planing-II Asma Mohsin, Focal Person Anti-Dengue/Assistant Director IT Usman Ramey, other concerned officers and building inspectors attended the meeting.
Additional Director General FDA Qaiser Abas Rind said that responsible and effective implementation of the standing directives of the Government of Punjab regarding the anti-dengue campaign was essential, as the chances of dengue larvae breeding increase during the rainy season.
He said that the timely identification and elimination of potential breeding sites was of fundamental importance in preventing the spread of dengue; therefore, no negligence or sluggishness would be tolerated at any level.
He directed that regular surveillance should be carried out at the FDA Complex and all sub-offices, including buildings, rooftops, lawns, parking areas, flowerpots, coolers, drainage points and other potential breeding sites.
He further directed that stagnant water accumulated after rainfall be removed immediately, and cleanliness and proper drainage arrangements should be ensured to prevent the creation of an environment conducive to dengue mosquito breeding.
He also directed that dengue surveillance in private housing societies should be made more effective and the managements of housing schemes should be strictly bound to comply with anti-dengue SOPs.
He said that special monitoring should be carried out at under-construction buildings, vacant plots, construction structures, water tanks and other potential larval breeding sites in housing schemes and the relevant authorities should be informed promptly in case of any violation.
Qaiser Abas Rind further directed the surveillance teams to maintain a complete record of their daily activities and submit timely reports regarding observations, identified larval breeding sites and remedial measures taken.
He said that the attendance, field visits and performance of field staff would be effectively monitored to ensure that no gap remained in anti-dengue measures. He directed that continuous coordination be maintained with the concerned officers of the district administration and Health Department, saying that anti-dengue efforts were a shared responsibility and the desired results could only be achieved through mutual cooperation, timely information-sharing and coordinated action among all relevant institutions.
He said that preventive measures taken in advance were the most effective strategy for protection against dengue. Therefore, FDA surveillance staff must maintain a visible presence in the field and continue monitoring until potential breeding sites were completely eliminated.
He directed the officers to focus on practical results rather than limiting anti-dengue activities to paperwork.
The Additional Director General also instructed that the public awareness campaign regarding preventive and precautionary measures for controlling dengue larvae breeding and protecting citizens from dengue mosquitoes should be continued.
