RAWALPINDI, Aug 15 (APP): A dignified Independence Day ceremony featuring a flag-hoisting and cake-cutting event was held at Gandhara Art Village in Taxila with the support of the Gandhara Taxila Centre for Development (GTCD), bringing together community leaders, students, artists and representatives of educational and cultural institutions.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the national flag followed by the playing of the national anthem. Participants also offered special prayers for Pakistan’s peace, stability, development and prosperity.
Zaildar Zaheer-ul-Hassan Shah attended the event as chief guest, while Javed Akhtar, Project Director of Gandhara Art Village under the Punjab Small Industries Corporation, was the guest of honour.
Representatives of Watan Dost Forum, Gandhara Odyssey (Pvt) Ltd, the Virtual University of Pakistan, Sir Syed Innovative School Mohra Muradu, Shah Zain Gandhara Institute, community leaders, students and artists participated in the event.
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, the chief guest, guest of honour and other distinguished participants cut an Independence Day cake to mark the occasion. The participants expressed their patriotic spirit by chanting slogans in support of Pakistan.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said Independence Day serves as a reminder of the immense sacrifices made for the creation of Pakistan and provides an opportunity to renew the commitment to contributing towards the country’s progress, peace, stability and prosperity.
The speakers highlighted Taxila’s Gandhara region as an important centre of Pakistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage. They said Gandhara Art Village has emerged as a significant platform for promoting and showcasing this historical identity in a contemporary manner.
They noted that the village is particularly focused on promoting stone art, Gandhara-inspired artistic traditions and creative works while providing artists with opportunities to display and enhance their skills.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to preserving and promoting Taxila’s historical heritage and the artistic traditions associated with Gandhara civilization.
They stressed the need for collective efforts to connect younger generations with the country’s rich cultural legacy while adapting heritage promotion to modern-day requirements.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for Pakistan’s security, development, prosperity and continued stability.
