President nominates Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi for Tamgha-i-Imtiaz

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15 (APP):President Asif Ali Zardari has announced the nomination of Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council and Secretary General of the International Tazeem-e-Haramain Sharifain Council, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, for the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The nomination recognizes Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi’s longstanding services to Islam, the Muslim world and Pakistan, as well as his efforts to promote interfaith harmony, sectarian harmony, religious dialogue and global peace.
According to the Pakistan Ulema Council, Ashrafi’s contributions to promoting peace, unity and understanding among different religious and sectarian communities have also received international recognition.
The Council noted that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), representing 57 Islamic countries, had previously honoured Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi with its Global Peace Award in recognition of his services towards peace and harmony.
The Pakistan Ulema Council expressed its gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for the nomination, describing it as an acknowledgment of Ashrafi’s sustained efforts for religious harmony, national unity and peace.
The Council said the honour would further encourage efforts for strengthening interfaith understanding, promoting unity within the Muslim Ummah and contributing to peace and stability at the national, regional and international levels.
