RAWALPINDI, Aug 14 (APP): Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) marked the 80th Independence Day celebrations of Pakistan with high national spirit, enthusiasm, and fervor through a series of commemorative events on campus.
The main proceedings featured a formal flag-hoisting ceremony followed by an Independence Day cake-cutting ceremony. The event was led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman and attended by the Registrar, Deans, Directors, faculty members, administrative staff, and a large number of children.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman stated that Independence Day provides a vital opportunity to remember and pay rich tribute to the martyrs who rendered ultimate sacrifices for the creation and defense of the country.
He paid rich homage to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his companions, whose unwavering struggle paved the way for an independent homeland.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the Armed Forces of Pakistan remain a source of strength and pride for the entire nation.
Referring to Mark-e-Haq, he asserted that Pakistan’s recent demonstration of resolve and national unity sent a powerful message to adversaries that the country is fully capable of defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also pointed to the recent Joint Defence Agreement signed in Makkah between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye as a historic milestone, reflecting the deep confidence and trust that brotherly nations place in Pakistan.
Turning his focus to the younger generation, Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman emphasized that the youth represent the future of Pakistan, noting that the nation holds high expectations for them. He urged young people to make constructive, productive use of modern technologies and actively engage in positive societal activities.
As part of the day’s celebrations, the University Green Office, in collaboration with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Life Saver, organized a special sightseeing tour of Islamabad on a double-decker bus.
The Vice Chancellor, alongside the Registrar, Deans, Directors, faculty members, administrative staff, and children, joined the tour and visited various key landmarks across the federal capital.
The Vice Chancellor commended the initiative, noting that such co-curricular activities allow the community to celebrate national occasions in a meaningful and memorable manner.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers offered for the martyrs of Pakistan, the security and prosperity of the nation, and the overall development of the country.
