Independence Day celebrated with national spirit at Rawalpindi Women University

RAWALPINDI, Aug 14 (APP): Rawalpindi Women University (RWU) marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence anniversary with a dignified ceremony featuring a Guard of Honour, flag hoisting, the national anthem, the formal unveiling of the university’s new anthem, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a campus tree plantation drive.

The ceremony commenced with a Guard of Honour presented to Vice Chancellor RWU, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif, followed by the hoisting of the national flag and special prayers offered for the country’s security, progress, and prosperity. A key highlight of the celebrations was the formal launch of RWU’s new university anthem, performed by students and warmly received by faculty, staff and attendees. Recognizing their contribution, participating students were awarded certificates of appreciation.

Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif also inaugurated a tree plantation drive on campus and distributed saplings among participants to promote a greener Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif paid tribute to the sacrifices and determination of the founders of the nation, emphasizing that independence carries the enduring responsibility to build a prosperous and dignified country. Drawing on over three decades of academic leadership, she underscored education as the cornerstone of national progress, asserting that higher education institutions must focus on developing character, critical thinking, and responsible leadership alongside standard academics.

Highlighting women’s education as essential human capital, the Vice Chancellor stated that educating women strengthens families and communities, urging young women to lead and shape the nation’s future. Citing the educational vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, she reaffirmed RWU’s commitment to national development through academic excellence, innovation, and female empowerment.
