Independence Day symbolises sacrifices, achievements: information secretary

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (APP): Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil on Friday felicitated the nation on the 79th Independence Day, saying the occasion served as a reminder of the sacrifices rendered by the forefathers for the creation of Pakistan.

In his message, the secretary said the past year had been significant for Pakistan, with the country achieving major successes on both internal and external fronts.

He said Pakistan’s diplomatic recognition had strengthened at international forums, attributing the progress to the government’s policies.

“Diplomatically, Pakistan’s recognition has taken place, and the government’s policies have played a major role in this,” he said.

The information secretary emphasised that the youth held the key to Pakistan’s future and called upon them to actively contribute to the country’s development.

He said the government had introduced various initiatives for the younger generation and expressed the hope that they would benefit from these opportunities and play a meaningful role in national progress.

Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had a longstanding responsibility to ensure the timely dissemination of authentic information to the public.

He said this responsibility had become more important in the digital era amid the growing spread of fake news, disinformation and misinformation.

He expressed the resolve that the ministry would continue its efforts to provide people with credible and fact-based information.
